An Equalizer Is Essential for Quality Sound Reproduction
Posted by lebvek | Filed under Singles
Changing the loudness of various frequencies in relationship to each other is a process called equalization or equalizing. The purpose of equalizing is to restore the balance of sound frequencies in reproduction so that it more closely resembles the original live sounds. If you are looking to buy or rent a sound system, remember that it is essential that your system include an equalizer.
Room Equalization vs. Program Equalization: The first term refers to the equalization of the sound system itself, while the second refers to the equalization of the actual finished product while it is being played. In program equalization, the producer intentionally changes the frequency balances to make the mix sound more natural; this corrects any distortions in the sound equalization due to variations in perception, overtone massing, and any recording or reproduction distortions.
How Individual Hearing Affects Sound Reproduction: There are some inherent truths about how individual hearing affects the end result of sound reproduction. Obviously, an individual’s own ears distort the relative balance frequencies in that people just do not hear all frequencies at equal volume. Even a small change in overall volume can change an individual’s perception of the balance of frequencies the sound contains. In turn, the volume at which an individual hears each frequency in relation to the others changes how they perceive the overall volume.
There is another inherent sound distortion associated with sound reproduction. Without equalization, recorded music simply will not sound natural. This is because at least some amount of equalization is necessary if a person’s ears are to receive the sound in an undistorted way. This has to correspond to the frequency balance of the original sound. As we pointed out before, equalization needs to be adjusted any time the volume level is. More and more equalization is needed as the sound reaches the extremes of loudness or softness, including that which is amplified.
When produced sound contains a broad range of frequencies, the listener will perceive changes in the equalization even with small volume changes. Changes in frequency balances affect the sound quality of produced music, and listeners have become conditioned to perceive these as volume changes when they really might not be. Pure tones are simply not complex enough to self-equalize with volume changes. Since those pure tones do not change, the listener loses out on the complexity of the original music.
If you are at a party and someone cranks up the stereo, you might suddenly feel as if the music is too loud. This might be true, but it may also mean that the sound has become distorted because of perceptive changes in the equalization. Decibels are more difficult to distinguish, or more difficult to tolerate because the equalization is not longer appropriate. This is the case whether the stereo volume is turned way up, or turned way down low. Even though human ears are more tolerant of sound distortions in equalization at low volumes than high, the distortion is still there.
Physical Reactions to Volume Levels: It might not surprise you to learn that a listener’s perception of overall volume and frequency balance within a set volume level actually changes during the course of a day. It depends upon the individual’s level of stress or relaxation.
It is well-known that sound is one of, if not the most influential factor on a person’s life. Produced sound is everywhere. Renting a proper equalizer is important to keep that sound natural. Many sound producers attend to room-equalization and acoustics, but not as many pay mind to the equalization of the actual music production. This is a shame because many times the final product is only a distortion of the original live sound. Unfortunately, many people are too conditioned to the distortions that they do not realize what they are missing.

Understanding Why Paintless Dent Removal Services Are Better Than Traditional Body Shops
Posted by lebvek | Filed under Reconnecting
People tend to treasure their cars almost as much as their home. Owning a vehicle can be a job in itself. You are forced to worry about having to maintain the vehicle, by having basic under the hood repairs done, and you are also forced to worry about the aesthetic appeal of the vehicle as well. When it comes to working on the outer surface of your vehicle, there are two different options that a driver has. You can choose to have a paintless dent removal service performed on your vehicle to fix its outer layer imperfections, or you have the option of having traditional body shop work done.
This process is becoming extremely popular these days, because of the benefits that this service yields. Drivers that choose to use paintless dent removal services as opposed to traditional body shop services will be able to save money, have free online estimates for services provided to them, and take advantage of a mobile repair service.
Paintless dent removal services can save money on body repairs for your vehicle. These days, most people are struggling to get by with their basic bills. When a body problem occurs, there are a lot of people that will hold off on having their vehicle repaired because of the expense. Paintless dent removal services are a cheap alternative to traditional bodywork repairs. Technicians performing this type of service will use tools and their basic skills to fix the outer surface of your vehicle. No additional paints, sanders, or fillers have to be used. This allows the cost estimates for this type of work are lower.
Aside from saving drivers money, this process will bring the repair shop to you. Paintless dent removal services do not require paints or other evasive tools to be used to rectify your vehicles body conditions. By bringing the repair shop to you, your repairs can be done in an expedited manner in your own parking garage.
A lot of the services that offer paintless dent removal services will provide their customers with free online estimates for the repairs that they need rendered. By taking advantage of these free estimates, you will know exactly how much money you will be expected to pay for this type of service, before it is performed. This will give you the ability to figure the repair amounts into your current budget.

How Do I Save My Marriage When My Husband Is Seeing Someone Else While We’re Separated?
Posted by lebvek | Filed under Post Divorce
I often hear from people (usually wives) who would very much like to save their marriage while they are separated, but they wonder if this will be possible because they suspect (or know for sure) that their husband is seeing someone else. It’s hard enough to save your marriage together as a couple, but it can be much harder once someone else has entered into the equation.
I recently heard from a wife who said, in part: “my husband and I separated a couple of months ago. The idea was that we would work on ourselves as individuals and then come back together and save the marriage. However, somewhere along the way, my husband connected with a woman at work and started going out with her. At first, he assured me that they were mostly casual friends, but recently they went on a 3 day trip together. Obviously, most people don’t go on overnight trips with folks who are merely friends. Every time I try to bring up the topic of her, my husband will not talk about her at all. I’m worried that this new woman and this new relationship will mean that I’m not able to save my marriage. How can I possibly compete when my husband and I have all these issues to fix? And I’m sure that she seems like she doesn’t come with all this baggage and all of these issues. Should I continue to confront him? Should I confront her? Should I try to break them up? Or do I just hope for the best?”
While it’s true that the other woman likely doesn’t appear to have the issues and the baggage, she also doesn’t come with the history that you have with your husband. While it’s true that she may some advantages, she can’t possibly compete with all of the things that you and your husband have shared over the years. This doesn’t mean that you don’t have to worry about her, of course. All of the questions asked by this wife were fair and reasonable ones. I’ll try to answer them in the following article.
Watch And Wait For A While Before You Make Untrue Assumptions Or Jump To Conclusions: The husband was still denying that he was in a romantic relationship with anyone else. And the wife really did want to believe this, but the overnight trips made her question what he was telling her. Although this was completely understandable, there was a real risk of jumping to conclusions, overreacting, and giving this woman, or this relationship, more power than either deserved.
Because every time you freak out or ask questions about her, you are almost handing him over to her, in a sense. You make the relationship seem more powerful and more likely and you make yourself seem more unattractive and more paranoid. Of course you’re going to be curious and upset, but often you are better off if you downplay your response, at least when you are around him. You will often have better results if you continue to be calm and confident that things will work out between you because you belong together. (You don’t want to be overly arrogant about this of course, but you do want to be calm.)
Consider Taking Your Larger Marital Issues Off Of The Table Until You’re Sure That She’s Out Of The Picture: It’s hard enough to work through your issues when you are separated and don’t have access to your husband, but it becomes even more difficult when someone else is competing with you for his already scattered attention. You don’t want for him to compare the two of you and figure out that it takes too much work by comparison to deal with you. This doesn’t mean that you have to always give him his way or back off on things that are to you, but you don’t want to continue to press painful or emotion packed issues that aren’t immediate or can be put off. Because you can bet that she’s presenting herself (and the relationship) as something that is going to be easy and maintenance free.)
What Should You Do While You’re Waiting For Their Relationship To Cool Off?: So what happens if you determine that your husband truly is seeing someone else? Do you throw a fit, try to break them up, or try to confront her? I actually think that the answer to all of these questions should be no. Again, when you react, you’re showing a lot of fear and you give her (and the relationship) a lot of power. It’s my experience that often, the first relationship during a separation or split does not last, so you are better off not overreacting.
Many wives ask me if they should try to go out with someone else to make their husband jealous or to show him how it feels. I personally don’t think this is a great idea either because I see this strategy create more problems than it solves. I don’t think that there is anything wrong with letting him wonder if you are going out with someone else, but you shouldn’t manufacture or begin a relationship just to get a rise or reaction our of your husband. In my opinion and experience, you will often put yourself in a better position if you wait it out, don’t show an excessive amount of interest either way, and create a lot of mystery about what you yourself are doing.
In the meantime, this wife could still work on herself as an individual, just like the original plan. That way, once her husband ended whatever relationship he might be having with the other woman, the wife would be in a much better position to address her marriage. And she wouldn’t have done any additional damage to the relationship. Your goal should still be to work on yourself and to improve whatever the relationship with your husband might be. You want for him to understand that you are easy to talk to and deal with and that you will always be his safe place to fall, no matter what ultimately happens.

Options in the Animation Business
Posted by lebvek | Filed under Marriage
Recently a gentleman from the States wrote me an email asking some questions pertaining financing for cartoon animated series production. This is an all-time favorite topic on this blog ever since I wrote an article titled “8 Steps to Producing a Cartoon Series”. One of his questions is a most unusual question as it dealt with the topic of ‘options’.
Options is a common term in the financial factor but used in the animation industry context is only common amongst the industry players.
In essence, an option is a contract which conveys to its holder the right, but not the obligation, to buy or sell shares of an underlying security at a specified price on or before a given date.
Used in animation, an option can be understood as a contract which conveys to its holder the right, but not obligation, to buy or sell an animation property (or any such derivative) at a specified price on or before a given date.
For example, you might have a great idea for an animated movie and Steven Spielberg’s just got to have it (don’t we wish?), so he makes you an offer to ‘hold’ on to your idea, while he secures funding to purchase and produce it. But it doesn’t mean he holds on to the rights of your idea forever. If the option contract expires and he still hasn’t paid you the money to purchase your idea, then the option is rendered useless. Steven has just lost the money he paid you to purchase the option to hold on to your idea and you are that much richer!
I know this sounds confusing. Basically Steven will pay you for the option to hold on to your idea for a specified time. Within this option contract, it will also be specified how much he will pay you for the idea and purchase the rights for good should he decide to execute the rights to this option. This means he will pay you again to do a clean purchase of the idea off you!
So with the basis of this understanding what options are, here’s the question below.
The Question: My first question is where can I find published reports (figures) of option deals and out right acquisition deals for the animation industry. So I can have a idea of what to expect going in, if a studio is interested. I understand that unknown properties have much less value. I have searched and searched.
My Answer: Option deals are very hard to pull off if your studio doesn’t have a precedent in such deals and/or if any of the top line creatives involved in the project (especially the EP and the scriptwriter) do not have prior credits that are impressive. The buyer would do all he can to undermine the value of the project. In a way, there is no way to determine the true value of the project since there are no precedents in your studio nor do you have a EP or scriptwriter who have had successes with other projects before. The ball is pretty much in the buyer’s court and he can give any figure he wants – and in most cases it won’t make you smile all the way to the bank. The best route I can think of is to consult an entertainment lawyer or agent who have pulled off such deals before for other projects. They would likely be well-positioned and knowledgeable enough to find precedents off the industry or deals they might have structured to apply it in your case. But be careful not to sign any rights away at all! Treat this as a non-exclusive (or exclusive for a short period of time) service where you will pay off the attorney or agent a proceedings from the deal. (Usually 15-30%). Your other option would be to pay off those guys directly with no backend from the deal. It’s all up to you.
Unfortunately what you are searching for is also what a lot of people are searching for (including myself!). These figures will be very hard to come by unless you work through entertainment lawyers and agents who have been there, done that. Alternatively you can dig into the annual reports of listed animation companies who might have written information of their deals. Lastly it wouldn’t hurt to have a few good friends in the industry. They might just be able to shed some light on what their companies been acquiring for how much recently.

Paint Monotypes With Oil Paint Sticks
Posted by lebvek | Filed under Friendship
Using oil paint sticks is a preferred method to paint monotypes. You use a lot of colors, blend and mix them to create pattern and images. Next step is taking a white piece of paper and placing it on top to create the monotype. Painters usually use glass as an initial support for their model. Paint slides nicely on it and it is very easy to clean up and reuse.
On glass you can create lines with different widths depending on the size the paint stick, the pressure you apply. Of course, the surface you paint on is important so any material other than glass will have a different effect. If you don`t use the oil paint sticks for a while some of the paint will dry and form a dry layer but this can be easily removed.
You don`t have to wait for the paint to dry, you can keep on painting on the wet paint. An interesting thing will happen if you do this. Colors will blend, gain contrast or lift off. It all depends on the way you use each oil paint stick. The only way to learn is to experiment as much as possible and try different combinations and analyze the result. The advantage of oil paint is that it doesn’t dry up very easily so you can take your time and decide if you like what you painted so far. You can constantly modify it any way you like, use new colors and styles. The type of paper you place on the print you have designed on glass is very important. You may try different types like dry or damp. You can also vary the pressure you apply and watch the result. Some people work better on damp paper than on dry. After you have placed the paper the glorious moment when you reveal your work arrives. The secret is to lift the paper very slowly while grabbing it from one corner. Wash your hands first so you won`t leave any marks on the paper.
Now take the monotype and apply another piece of paper on it to see if it will make a second print. Usually it will but the colors are a bit faded out. Depending on the amount of paint you have used the result may still look nice. If you are going to write something on your future designs remember that the monotype will be in reverse so the way you write the letters is very important. If the paint is still wet on the glass you will have no problem in cleaning it after painting with oil sticks but if you let it there for a while you might need to use solvent.
Painting monotypes with oil sticks can be a lot of fun and allows you to be as creative as you want and constantly improve your painting. You might get your hands a little dirty but this is actually part of the fun.

Addicted to Love
Posted by lebvek | Filed under Domestic Violence
Love addiction is focused on love as the solution to inner pain,
loneliness and emptiness. In love addiction, the relationship or the need
for romance is all consuming. Nothing else in life has equal
importance.
The Love addict has very intense emotions including anger, fear, hate
and ‘love’ for the other person, and it is this extreme positive or
negative intensity that differentiates love addiction from habits
where we often also develop a craving for the object of desire.
An addiction usually affects and includes the body, emotions and
the mind.
On the physical level, our brain indeed creates a chemical, PEA
that creates the thrill and excitement that we experience when we fall in
love. When this person drops out of our life the body produces
withdrawal symptoms such as shakiness, cramps or loss of appetite.
We all may have experienced such symptoms at the loss of a loved one.
In case of love addiction, there is also a desperate need to regain
this person or relationship back, accompanied by an increasing
sense of guilt or shame about one’s ‘weakness’ to let go of this person.
On an emotional-mental level, being in love makes most people
feel good. In case of love addiction, it creates a feeling of being ‘on top
of the world’, feeling drunken by love, being euphoric beyond any sense
of reality about the steps necessary to turn the attraction into a workable
relationship.
When these feelings fade away, the love addict will do anything to
regain this love even at the price to submerge their own personality into
the loved one by fully identifying with their interests and needs.
In love addiction, the addict is often obsessed with finding the ‘prince
or ‘princess’ that will be THE ONE FOREVER and solve all the
problems. Life without that love seems to be meaningless.
The desperate need for finding that person or regaining a lost love can
destroy all other parts of life, create chaos, tension and anxieties and
threat life itself when chronic grief turns into suicidal thoughts.
Because love addiction gets supported through the ideal of romantic
love in movies and songs, it’s actually quite difficult to crack the self-
delusion that is part of love addiction. All addictions have an element of denial but in case of love addiction it is more severe. Love addicts
often don’t see the connection between their pain and suffering and the
illusionary quality of what they seek as love.
The first step would be to recognise the love addiction as such
and then to take the necessary steps to fulfil all those needs that
have been delegated to THE ONE. This may require finding out
what you can do to be good to yourself, to love yourself and to
appreciate the good things in your life.
Another important step is to accept that you may be single for a long
time.
Start to develop a wide variety of interests and activities, meet
people and make new friends. This will make your company more
pleasant, give you practice in developing social skills, and increase your
chances of finding a compatible partner to cope with everyday life.
With a good network of friends and acquaintances and exploring new
and interesting ways to share your life with them, the emptiness and
painful longing will fade away.
As love addiction is so deeply rooted, you may need extra help in
understanding the dynamics of love addiction and in shifting the
energetic patterns that hold the addiction in place so that you can
develop healthy relationship patterns and communication skills.
I offer a free course in how to develop healthy relationships, a
distance course on love where I shift those energetic patterns
through a broad range of healing modalities such as movement,
breathing, colour or sound and a book and the ebook Beyond
suffering where you will find a comprehensive description of the
different stages of love with its own qualities and challenges to give
you a broader view of the context of love addiction. You will also find a hands-on manual in this book on how to strengthen a
positive Self and move beyond this illusion of love

Know About Your Prediction From Indian Astrology
Posted by lebvek | Filed under Conflict
The art of astrology broadly revolves around the very basic aspect of the position of planets and stars (Sun, Moon, and planets) at the time of the birth of a person.
All about Indian Astrology
This relation is the base of every astrology chart or horoscope, which communicates and defines the fate of a person. In Indian traditions, astrology chart is drawn just within a short time of birth. Apart from the requirement of exact time and date of the birth, the location of the birth where the child is born is also needed to be mentioned in order to get an astrological chart in place. The nine planets of astrology are different from the planets mentioned in the Solar System of western science. Sun, Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Venus, Mercury, Rahu, and Ketu comprise the list of Navagrahas, also called as zodiac planets or astrological planets. Each of these astrological planets has their own unique features. Also, each of them holds certain pros and cons at certain houses of certain Zodiac Signs.
Astrological Chart in Astrology
After considering all these aspects, an astrology chart is placed for a certain person. Each astrological chart has a total of twelve houses, and each house represents a certain characteristic of life. A total of nine planets fill up those houses, and a few of those houses remain vacant. The astrological planets placed in those houses, and its combination with the other placed planets in certain other houses determines the fate and future of a person. It also defines ‘Karma’ or deeds which a person will perform, whether ‘Paap’ (sins) or ‘Punya’ (virtue) in his life. It also determines the Sun Sign of a person, on the basis of which a person’s name is decided.
Astrology: A Part of Tradition
Astrology chart is not a mere piece of paper, or a part of tradition. It is a mirror of the fate, traits, qualities, features, strengths, weaknesses, and every small aspect related to that person. It is a representation of the entire future and life of a person. It depicts how well or bad, a person is going to live his life. However, astrology does not get into the minutest details, but it still provides more of an outline picture of the different life situations at different points of time of the life of a person. It elaborates about the strengths and weaknesses of a person, which help a person to take more conscious and stable decisions in his personal as well as professional life.
Get Organized for Wedding Planning!
Posted by lebvek | Filed under Commitment
You’ve had friends to your home for dinner. Maybe you’ve hosted a Super Bowl party or two. But have you ever planned and coordinated an event for 50-300 guests?
If you haven’t, then welcome to the world of wedding planning.
Caterers, florists, and other wedding-related companies will be banging down your door to get your business. Friends and relatives will offer advice, phone numbers, and web sites for you to check out. How will you juggle the multitudes of research and information from those who want your day to be special? The key to smooth and stress-reducing wedding planning is…
Being Organized
Being organized is the art of having the things you need when you need them whether it is a brochure, a phone number, or a picture of your ultimate bridal bouquet. And no one recognizes the need to be organized more than someone who is planning a wedding. A few organizing techniques you can use to help you plan your wedding are the consistent use of a calendar/PDA and making ‘to-do lists.’ But what about all of those wedding-related papers you’ve accumulated? Estimates from caterers, song sheets from bands, and all of those pictures you tore out of magazines–how are you supposed to keep them all organized?
The Wedding Binder
The top tool for organized wedding planning is a ‘Wedding Binder.’ Besides your future spouse, your ‘Wedding Binder’ will be the closest thing to a best friend you’ll have during your engagement period. The wedding binder is essentially a ‘home’ for all wedding-related information. Each topic will have a specific area in the binder allowing for quick referencing and retrieval.
How should you build your wedding binder to work best for you?
The size of your wedding and how many ‘extras’ you incorporate into your wedding day (ex. ice sculptures, doves) will determine the size of your binder. If you are having a small, simple gathering or you’re not doing much research, you may not need more than a 1″ spine. Large gatherings with many ‘extras’ will probably require a binder with upwards of a 3″ spine.
Besides the binder itself, you will need:
three hole punched, two-sided pocket folders
extra wide dividers or self adhesive divider tabs for the pocket folders
three hole punched, zippered pocket for pen/pencils/paper clips (optional)
One, two-sided pocket folder is usually enough room for the paperwork of one vendor. One side of the pocket folder is for ideas and research and the other side is for estimates and contracts. Keeping these different types of information separate will allow you to locate them and retrieve at a moment’s notice.
Examples of some categories for your pocket folders are…
Catering
Photography
Bridal Gown
Transportation
Ceremony/Officiant(s)
Honeymoon
Assemble the pocket folders in order of importance to you. If you are constantly making calls to your caterer, place that folder towards the front of the binder. Already know what favors you want to give out? Place that folder towards the back.
What other information can be stored in your wedding binder?
Guest lists/gift lists
E-mail/phone list of bridal party members
Seating charts
A print-out of your registry
Benefits to using a wedding binder
Money-saving benefit: You’re always prepared when a vendor wants to talk about price. If someone quotes you a price in writing and you can’t produce the paper it’s written on, they could try to charge you more money for their services.
Time-saving benefit: Since all of your information has a ‘home,’ you won’t be wasting your time printing duplicate information off the internet or repeatedly asking for the addresses of your guests.
Sanity-saving benefit: All of your wedding information is in one place. No need to take apart your living room looking for what you need.
Tips for keeping an organized wedding binder:
Label the pocket folders clearly
Place new papers/information in the correct pocket of your binder as soon as you receive them.
Sort and purge your binder once a month. Toss any information that is no longer relevant in the trash or in a folder for a friend or relative who may need it in the future.
Always bring your wedding binder with you when meeting with your vendors. You’ll have all the information you need to compare prices and make educated decisions. You will be organized, prepared and in control of your special day.

Make a Wood Carving Knife
Posted by lebvek | Filed under Affairs
After seeing a few articles and tutorials on making carving knives, I wanted to give it a try. Most instructional information that I have found, details how to make your own knife from making the blade all the way to making the handle. I don’t really have all of the proper tools or expertise to make my own blades, so when I found some ideas using a blade from an old pocket knife, I jumped at the chance to try it. It turned out pretty good, so I wanted to pass on the information to my visitors.
The first step is to find the old knife that you want to use a blade from. After removing the blade from the pocket knife, find your desired type of wood for the handle and cut out a 3/4″ by 3/4″ by 5″ piece (I’m using hickory) and then split that in half.
Now outline the area of the blade that will be recessed inside the handle and remove a notch so that the blade sits just flush with that half of the handle. Now using a drill, drill a hole through both halves where the pin goes to hold the blade in place and then drill another hole through both halves closer to the other end of the handle. I have used a couple nails for the pins in this project.
Now after making a dry run putting the two halves together with the nails and blade in place, you are ready to apply some JB Weld or 5 Minute Epoxy inside the recess for the blade and then quickly place the blade in. Now apply more bonding compound to the other side of the blade recess and along the two halves of wood. Place both halves together and insert the nails. Using a clamp, clamp the knife together to insure a tight fit for drying. You may have to wipe away some of the excess bonding compound that squeezes out.
Allow the clamped knife to dry for at least 24 hours and then remove the clamps. Use a cutoff wheel or hacksaw to cut off the nails flush with the wooden handle and use a sander to sand the knife smooth. I used a power hand sander to round off the corners and smooth off the cut off nails. Now you have a carving knife that you can be proud that you made. You may want to use a woodburner and burn your initials into the handle and/or use another knife and carve a pattern in the handle. You can now leave the handle natural or use your favorite finish to seal the handle.
Don’t forget to use your favorite sharpening method to get your new carving knife razor sharp and ready to use.
